'El Tri' Kicks Off At Candlestick Park.-

World Cup bound Mexican national team, "El Tri," will launch a six-match U.S. tour on February 24 at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. In the first friendly match, the team will face-off against Bolivia.

 

Sponsors for El Tri’s 2010 U.S. tour include Adidas, AT&T, Bud Light, Coca-Cola, Degree for Men, Jose Cuervo, Makita, NAPA Auto Parts, The Home Depot, and Visa. Two new sponsors are on board this year - Cacique and Wrigley's Extra.

 

The annual U.S. tour will aid El Tri in the final preparations for the FIFA World Cup opener on June 11 in Johannesburg against host South Africa.

 

Here’s a closer look at the 2010 U.S. tour schedule:

  • February 24 vs. Bolivia – Candlestick Park in San Francisco
  • March 3 vs. New Zealand – Rose Bowl in Los Angeles
  • March 24 vs. Iceland Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.
  • May 7 vs. Ecuador – New Meadowlands Stadium in New York
  • May 10 vs. Senegal – Soldier Field in Chicago
  • May 13 vs. TBD – Reliant Stadium in Houston

 

Copa Santander Libertadores Off and Running on FSE.-

Copa Santander Libertadores, perhaps the most prestigious soccer tournament in South America, returned to Fox Sports en Español on January 26 when Argentina’s Club Atlético Colón faced-off against Chile’s Universidad Católica.

 

Airing on Fox Sports en Español since 2002, the tournament features 38 clubs from Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay, Venezuela, Uruguay, Colombia, Chile, Peru and Bolivia. Staged in its current form since 1960, Copa Santander Libertadores’ games are played from January through June.

 

FSE's lead commentator Raul Orvañanos handles the play-by-play commentary while Santiago Puente calls all the matches. Also on hand are commentator Alejandro Luna and former Mexican goalkeeper Martín Zúñiga.

 

Caribbean Baseball Returns To SBN.-

The Caribbean World Series - which includes winners of the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela leagues – will air stateside on Spanish Béisbol Network. Games will air in:

  • KFLC-AM 1270 in Dallas-Ft. Worth
  • WOCN-AM 1450 in Miami
  • WNSW-AM 1430 in New York
  • WUBA-AM 1480 in Philadelphia
  • WMET-AM 1160 in Washington, DC

The 12-game series will be played in Isla Margarita, Venezuela from February 2 -7.

Originated in 1949, the Caribbean World Series is a round robin tournament with the Serie del Caribe winner determined by the best record. The series annually rotates its venue among the four participating countries.

 

Boxing Goes HD on Telemundo.-

"Boxeo Telemundo" kicks off its 2010 season tonight when Bantamweight Jesús “Estrellita” Ruíz takes on former world title challenger Luis “Surtigas” Meléndez for the WBC Latin at the Auditorio Plaza Condesa in Mexico City.

 

The bout brings Telemundo’s monthly boxing coverage into “high definition.” Network sportscasters René Giraldo and Jessi Losada anchor “Boxeo Telemundo.”
